Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT integrates cognitive behavior therapy with teachings in mindfulness and acceptance. Developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT helps us address difficulties with regulating emotions, impulse control, assertiveness, and relationships. Together patients learn and practice skills that help identify and manage emotions, so that the person feels empowered to tolerate life events and to navigate interactions with others.

We offer two different DBT services: DBT Skills Groups and an Applied DBT Group (descriptions of each below).

DBT SKILLS GROUP

Our DBT Skills Groups meet weekly.  New clients can join a group at the start of each DBT Module. It takes on average five months to complete a full cycle of DBT.

GROUP MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Individuals who participate in our DBT groups are required to be in individual weekly treatment.

CURRENT GROUPS

  • Tuesdays at 6:30pm-8pm

  • Wednesdays at 6:30pm-8pm

  • Thursdays at 6:30pm-8pm

APPLIED DBT GROUP

The Applied DBT group will marry a more traditional interpersonal process group with a DBT skills group. In this way participants will engage with each other about their life experiences, while DBT skills are used to inform discussions to help group members with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal experiences, and day to day awareness of their internal and external experiences.

GROUP MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Individuals who participate in the Applied DBT group must have completed at least one full cycle of a DBT Skills group at The Psychological Center or elsewhere
